Pasukan Irak Rebut 40 Desa Dekat Mosul dari ISIS

Perseturuan antasa Irak dan ISIS sampai saat ini masih belum reda. Pasukan Irak memasuki desa al-Khuwayn, di sebelah selatan kota Mosul, setelah berhasil merebut desa tersebut dari pasukan ISIS, 23 Oktober 2016. Pada 17 Oktober lalu, PM Haider al-Abadi mengumumkan dimulainya operasi militer besar-besaran untuk merebut Mosul, kota terbesar Irak sekaligus basis terakhir ISIS di negeri itu. Kabar terbaru yang diperoleh dari Militer Amerika Serikat (AS) mengatakan bahwa pasukan Irak telah merebut kembali 40 desa dari kelompok Negara Islam (ISIS) di dekat Mosul, Irak utara.

Perebutan itu terjadi sejak operasi besar-besaran dimulai untuk mengusir militan dari kota itu minggu lalu.

Brigadir Jenderal Angkatan Udara AS, Matthew C Isler, Jumat (28/10/2016), mengatakan, pasukan Irak menguasai wilayah di timur dan selatan Mosul awal pekan ini.

Isler juga menegaskan “momentum” masih di pihak mereka.

Pertarungan untuk merebut kembali Mosul, yang jatuh ke tangan ISIS dalam hitungan hari pada musim panas 2014, merupakan operasi militer terbesar yang dilakukan sejak invasi AS tahun 2003.

Menurut Isler, koalisi pimpinan AS telah meningkatkan serangan udara terhadap ISIS.

Selain itu, koalisi melaksanakan serangan tiga kali lebih dari sebelumnya untuk mengusir militan itu dari kota-kota Irak lainnya.
